How can I refill my energy?

Energy refills on its own, at a rate of one point every three minutes. You can also visit the store and buy some special items to refill your energy. Some gift and collection turn-in prizes also let you refill your energy. Gold and Silver Phoenix Medallions also help you regenerate energy more quickly.

Why do rooms not grow to fill the screen in full-screen mode?

A vertical resolution of 1024 (such as 1280 x 1024) is required for full-screen mode.

How can I turn off the magnifying glass while I’m exploring a room?

Press the spacebar or click Disable Magnifying Glass in the upper right corner of the game window.

Why did one of my collection items just disappear?

Some items disappear after certain quests are completed. You will be notified of this whenever you complete such a quest.

How can I get diamonds?

Each time you level up you get 5 diamonds; if you like, you can pay to purchase more.

Where can I find out what my profession is?

Your profession is selected randomly and only matters to your friends, as it gives them various bonuses when they use your help. Besides, with different friends, you have different professions.

How can I expel phenomena?

You have to either use a special item or explore a room (under conditions which are more difficult than usual).
Why do I have one kind of free gift when my friends have other kinds?

Each player has a random free gift to give which changes every Monday. You can also answer your friends’ requests that they post to their walls, if your level is high enough.

How can I post item requests to my wall?

In the collection chest, click the Charge button next to the appropriate collection, and click Ask in the window that appears. Then, post your request to a friend’s wall. By clicking and allowing the game to load, your friend can send you the item you need. Such gifts are unlimited.

What should I do if my request doesn’t appear on my friend’s wall?

Disable your browser’s pop-up blocker, if you have one.

How can I use an energy boost from my inventory?

Click on the hand icon under the energy boost.

How can I rescue a friend?

Recognizing a trapped friend is easy: simply look for an exclamation point over their name. To rescue that friend, click the exclamation point, click Save, and explore the room in which your friend is trapped. If you succeed, your friend will become your helper and will have a hand icon over their picture.

What are helpers? How can I use them?

By clicking on a helper, you can take them with you into a room and, if you pass the room, you will receive an extra bonus. The helper you select will have a magnifying glass icon over them, and will help with whichever room you choose. All players have a randomly selected profession which determines the bonus you receive with their help: Banker: +10% money Scientist: +10% experience Explorer: +5% chance of finding a collection item A profession’s bonus applies to one exploration. After that, your friend will wander the map, sleeping, for 24 hours. You can wake a sleeping friend immediately by using an Alarm Clock; your friends can also wake your helpers.

Why are there only 10 helpers roaming my map when my profile says I have more?

Some helpers are hidden so that they don’t crowd your map. Whenever you use one, another that is hidden will be shown.

How can I visit my friends?

You can explore your friends’ houses by clicking the Visit button near the bottom of the screen, on the Friends Panel. While visiting, you can see which rooms your friends have unlocked, their helpers, their profile, and their collections.

Does visiting friends give me any bonuses?

Whenever you visit a friend for the first time on a given day, you receive a reward. The quantity of rewards you can receive depends on your reputation level: at level 1, you can only receive one reward; at level 2, you can receive two, and so on. Since each friend can give you a reward only once a day, you can never receive more rewards per day than the number of your friends.

How can I help my friends?

In your friends’ houses, you may see arrows that you can click on to help your friends. Some of these arrows are inside rooms; by clicking them, you can leave hints which your friends will use when they explore these rooms. Other arrows let you wake your friends’ helpers. No matter how you help your friend, you’ll receive some money, experience, and reputation. You might even get a collection item.

What if a friend helps me?

Your friends can leave hints in your rooms which will give you extra bonuses for exploring them. The bonus you get depends on your friend’s profession: bankers increase the money you earn, scholars increase the experience you get, and collectors increase your chances of finding a collection item. Friends can also wake your helpers.

Elfender

Posted by – March 31, 2011

Elfender is a browser-based tower defense game that is developed by Beijing-based Ourpalm and published by Guangzhou-based ClapAlong. The game has a complicated mix of puzzle, strategy, adventure, and management.

When firstly distributed in China, Elfender has been considered devoid of wit and inventiveness, a slavish copy of the original Plants vs. Zombies and DDTank. On March, 31, Clapalong, a Chinese online game publisher localized 植物大作战 into elfender and rolls out the first closed beta. The Chinese version is also hosted on Facebook and available at http://apps.facebook.com/plantwar_tw. The game received an extremely negative response from players and industry practitioners.

Elfender features cute and lovely characters who can engage in PVE and PVE, or choose to fight other NPCs and monsters. Furthermore, players can summon up a variety of monsters and elves to assist in the battle.

With more Chinese online games rush into North American Market, the playing ground in US are already saturated with copycat production. While Chinese developers are still confident of this market, hoping to get more revenue by adverting their games using New Ad platform Facebook.

Besides Batheo that is purely inspired from Three Kingdoms Online, ClapAlong now secured the rights to distribute global version of Elfender. We still did not know why Chinese games are that succesful even they just plagiarized other company’s efforts.

With its headquarters set in Guangzhou, China, Clapalong is poised to localized more Chinese browser games into English-speaking Countries, seeking more opportunities to go global.

The first English localization Batheo has been proven a little bit successful although they invested about $ 1 Million ad fees, yet with 17 servers live so far.  The company envisions this new casual browser multiplayer game that lets players play a no-download and fully fledged strategy MMO in the web browser with no additional download fees.

Doomsday Defense

Posted by – March 30, 2011

Doomsday Defense is a tower defense game. Your task is to build towers to keep the enemy out. You have many different towers to choose from in the game. Blueprints are available to unlock the various towers in the game. Collect loot items from destroyed enemies as you fight through the various waves in the game. Take part in numerous quests for rewards such as resources or gold and buy items in the game store like a resource pack. Upgrade your castle to higher levels and mine iron, stone, and crystal. Recruit your own army to go against your enemies towers in the soul tower. Use the academy to upgrade technology to become more powerful. Use workers to repair and upgrade different building such as your castle and towers. The game world features many different map areas you can fight and it includes PvP action too.

Towers

Doomsday DefenseThe game features many different types of towers you can build. Towers will take resources, gold and blueprints to unlock and complete. Blueprint pieces for towers will drop from enemy crates as you play the game or PvP against other players. Once you have all the four blueprint pieces you can unlock newer, more powerful tower defenses. In the game shop you can also purchase some of the rare blueprint pieces you need for towers. Towers can be upgrades o they are more powerful and will need to be repaired if they are damaged. Upgrades and repairs will cost resources and you’ll need workers to finish the work. Keep fighting the waves of enemies in the game for more chances to get the blueprint pieces and have all the towers at your disposal.

Your Castle

In your castle you can mine for various resources including iron, stone, and crystal. These resources are needed for your tower construction. All structures in your castle area are upgradeable. Other structures include the academy where technology is researched. For example you can improve your mining by researching that technology in the academy. In the soul tower you can train troops for attacks against other players in the game through the PvP maps in the game. There are over twenty different troop types in the game.

Game Play

Doomsday DefenseOverall Doomsday Defense is your standard tower defense game but its fun to play on Facebook. There’s enough tower selection in the game to keep it interesting and the castle area is nice too. There are a huge number of different maps you can play once they are all unlocked. It would take most players a great deal of time to go through alt the maps in the game. Once you defeat the enemy waves you’ll get rewards and unlock new maps in the game.

Graphics Sound and Interface

The game looks great graphically with some nice detail for a Facebook game. The monsters are all varied and different and the castle area and map are well done. The sounds are mediocre however and could use some improvement. On the interface side you can fine all the areas of the map easily with the menu system at the bottom of the screen or use the top icons to access the most used icons such as your castle, the PvP map, and the NPC waves. You’ll find a mail icon, camera for images, help and so on.

Multiplayer

The game has a multiplayer component where you can fight in PvP battles on the PvP map. In the game you can also visit your Facebook friends to open crates for goodies such as coins or loot pieces for blueprints. You can set friends as allies and you can have rivals which are players that constantly attack you. If you pick invade you can choose a Facebook player to attack in the game and set them as a rival if you like. Like many Facebook games you can send your friends gifts such as resources or coins.

Conclusion

Doomsday Defens eis a great Facebook tower defense style game. There are plenty of different towers to build and the blueprint collection is a nice touch. The maps all look good and the castle area is well done too. These some nice multiplayer features in the game as well. If you like tower defense games this is one Facebook game you’ll want to give a try.

Serf Wars

Posted by – March 30, 2011

Serf WarsSerf Wars offers the same types of medieval city building as you’ll find in other Facebook games. You’ll find homes, cottages, huts, farms, fields, barracks, roads and other items to decorate your city. The game has quite a few structures in it already for some variety. This game is different from other medieval city builders since you play a series of mini games to gain gold and level up in the game. The mini games are varied and there are several of them to select to play. . The use of mini games to level up and gain access to more gold and structures is an odd combination. You can collect some gold through taxes each day that you login to play Serf Wars.

Structures

Serf WarsThe game has a good selection of structures for you to add to your kingdom. There are various houses such as huts, cottages, shacks, cabins, and more they come in various colors and shapes for variety. Farms provide food for your citizens but you don’t actually collect any food they just add to your food totals. Pick from corn, strawberry, potatoes, apples, melons and animal such as a chicken farm. In the game, you also have combat structures such as the barracks, wizard academy, and elf camp. Combat structures cost a great deal of gold and you’ll need to play dozens of mini games to add them all to your city.

Decorations

You’ll need to keep your citizens happy by adding decorative items to your city area. You’ll find roads, fountains, colorful mushrooms, trees, wagons, circus themes, statues, and other items. You can get a very nice looking city with all the decorations in the game. The game has a great selection of decorative items but you’ll need plenty of gold from mini games or taxes to add them in your city.

Game Play

Serf Wars would be a nice game except it has a major flaw to it. You can’t accomplish anything in the game without playing mini games. These games are not very fun and they add nothing to the medieval theme of Serf Wars. The games are nothing short of a chore you need to play to build anything in the game and level your city. For example, to build one soldier you need to collect food from mini games. If there were actual structures in your city that provided goods this would be a better option. The min games just don’t work for a medieval city builder. If you remove the mini games, you have the making of a great looking city builder but the games spoil what could be a fun game.

Graphics/Sound/Multiplayer

Serf Wars looks nice with good color and it has a nice soundtrack. The structures are all varied and you can have a great looking city. The game will have a quest system, and a world map for some multiplayer action soon. Currently you can attack friends with your troops so there is a multiplayer element to the game in its current form.

Conclusion

Serf Wars has the makings of a great game but the need to play mini games ruins the experience. These games add nothing to the game play; they are a chore, and not appealing in the least. Some players may like them but most will go back to playing games such as Evony.

Lord of Ultima

Posted by – March 30, 2011

The first part of the Ultima franchise was released back in 1980 and was considered one of the first RPG’s for the personal computer. It was available for the Apple II, Commodore 64 and DOS. Eight sequels followed in the series, some with expansions. There were also four spin-off games, and an MMO called Ultima Online. Ultima Online was released in 1997 and was one of the first massive muli-player online games to hit the internet. Originally created by Origin Games, the rights to the Ultima world are now held by EA games. EA is now trying to revive the Ultima franchise with their new browser based game Lord of Ultima.

At first Lord of Ultima looks like a pretty basic civ knock-off, similar to Kingdoms of Camelot and Evony, but upon closer inspection you will see Lord of Ultima Logosome distinct differences. It’s these differences that really make Lord of Ultima an appealing game. The goal is to build a city and an army, then defend your city and conquer other cities. Some of the things that set Lord of Ultima apart from other fantasy based social sims games is that this game has a massive amount of buildings and types of army units. The Lord of Ultima city layout is also larger and more complex then other similar games.

Gameplay

For the most part, playing Lord of Ultima feels the same as playing any other browser based civ clone. Players build and build and build, then Lord of Ultima City Layoutrecruit and build and recruit and build…you get the picture. EA did add some attributes to different buildings that do impact the city. Putting a warehouse next to a sawmill for example, gives a bonus to that sawmill’s production. There are similar bonuses for resources, for building speed and recruitment speed. These types of bonuses make the layout of a players city very important, allowing player to recover quickly from attack and to build and recruit faster then other players. Also, since the Lord of Ultima city layout is so large players can still recuperate after even after making a layout mistake. All-in-all this game hasn’t added many new aspects to the genre but has enough unique features to keep fans of the genre coming back.

One of the biggest things this game has going for it is great 2d graphics. Lord of Ultima does not really look like a browser game. With moving Lord of Ultima Region flags, spraying fountains and smoking chimneys, Lord of Ultima looks more like a mid 90′s RTS. Despite it’s excellent graphics, some of the cuts could go more smoothly. When an empty plot of land first gets built on, the move from empty plot to construction and then to the finished building seems a little choppy. The edges of the player’s city also just drops off into a grey nothingness which is unappealing to the eye and really makes the game feel like unpolished. Even with these mild criticisms, Lord of Ultima is a great looking browser game.

Sound

When talking about browser games, that’s actually quite pretty good looking graphics! Lord of Ultima also has some decent music and ambient Lord of Ultima Audio Optionssounds but if a player doesn’t care for them they can be adjusted or turned off completely in the games options. Many browser games are adding in options to adjust the in-game sounds but few, if any, have those options built in to the first release. Lord of Ultima gets a big thumbs up in my book for that. Growing with a game is fun especially it is in terms of gameplay but the ability to change basic options early on is fantastic.

Controls and User Interface

The graphic stylings are not the only throwback to the 90′s. Moving around your city in Lord of Ultima is done by clicking inside the city and then using the arrow keys. This is the same type of movement controls used in most old school RTS like the Warcraft and Starcraft series. Player have seen it before and ease into using it. The user interface is similar to most RTS. The game board taking up the majority of the screen and a control panel on the left and another small panel across the top. It’s nothing new but it’s familiar enough that RTS fans can feel at home with this game as soon as they start playing it.

From end to end Lord of Ultima is a solid browser based sims game that offers more building options then most others. It should please anyone who loves sims game but if you are looking for something new and exciting in a sims game then you may have to keep looking.

Deep Realms

Posted by – March 30, 2011

Deep Realms is a Facebook RPG style game. Take your character on adventures through various areas, get items, or take part in PvP action via an arena.

Deep Realms Basics

Deep RealmsPlaydom has moved into the RPG market with Deep Realms. This game is a bit like Treasure Isle from Zynga where you need to uncover tiles to move around on the various maps. As you move, you’ll uncover coins, experience, and enemies blocking your path to the next area in the game. During the turn based combat, you can employ different moves you have learned in the game to defeat your enemies. Deep Realms also features a town where you can buy items such as new armor and take part in a PVP arena area against other Facebook users. The town features a bazaar where you can play mini game and win prizes. Game play features boss enemies where you can call upon your Facebook friends to help you defeat them so you can progress through the map.

Gameplay

Deep RealmsDeep Realms feels more like RPG game and does away with the old text menus most Facebook RPGs have and bring more interaction to the game. While the combat is still basic, it’s more engaging that just clicking on a text menu. Your character can use various weapons in the game such as swords, bows and even different moves such as tackle. Players can be a warrior, templar, ranger, assassin, or a sorcerer. Each class has its own special and unique abilities. For example, the warrior is better up close while the ranger excels in the use of the bow. This is standard RPG fare but it shows that games are beginning to evolve some on Facebook. The game also uses energy each time you uncover a square on the map. Energy will replenish over time and you can pick up energy potions along with health potions too. You can change the look of your avatar anytime that you want.

Player Customization

All good RPG games allow for some sort of player customization. With Deep Realms, you can change your weapons, armor, and use special skills too. As you play, you’ll unlock more skills and the ability to use different weapons. Players can have offensive skills, defensive skills, and attack skills such as the ability to wield a sword, bow, or use a tackle attack. Some classes such as the sorcerer can also use magic skills. There’s a great skill tree to view which shows how you are advancing through the various skills. There’s enough skill content in the game to keep you playing for some time, which adds to the game play. You can easily remove skills from your avatar and put new ones on you have acquired.

Graphics and Sound

Deep RealmsDeep Realms has a good soundtrack and the sound changes when you fight. The game could use some combat sounds but the music is still good. The game looks great and is nice and colorful. Forests look like forests, and caves are dark and spooky looking. You can only see the initial area your avatar is in and it would be nice to move the mouse around a bit to see more of the map. A full-screen toggle would also be a nice addition but the game play area is quite large so it is not too much of a problem. It’s nice to see a game pay a little more attention to graphics and make something that looks decent since it adds to the game play in Deep Realms.

Multiplayer

In the game you’ll come across tough boss enemies like those in other RPGs. You can invite your Facebook friends to come and help you defeat the boss so you can move on the map. The game also has an arena area where you can test your weapons and armor against other players or just play for fun. Players can pick u what are called “spirits” in the game and use these to improve their characters in the arena. They may get a sprit to go first in the battle or get a spirt to double the amount of gold you would get from winning. These are nice addition but if you don’t have a spirit and your opponent has one you may end up losing the match. The arena can be fun and it will get people playing who like PV action.

Conclusion

Deep Realms goes beyond the standard Facebook RPG game and gives you a fuller experience. There’s enough content in the game to keep players in the game with the game maps and nice skill set you can acquire. The game has arena combat as well as good customization options. Let’s hope that more Facebook game developers start to make decent RPG games along the lines of Deep Realms.
